The third edition of the Global Pizza Party, organized by Pizza DAO, brought together communities with a keen interest in blockchain technology in Costa Rica on Monday night. This worldwide celebration has been taking place since May 2021, commemorating the day of the first-ever transaction with digital currencies, also known as Bitcoin Pizza Day. It all began with the purchase of two pizzas using 10,000 bitcoins (BTC).
This year, an even more extensive series of free talks were organized, focusing on the progress of socially and environmentally impactful projects such as Cambiatus, San José Criptociudad, and ReFi San José, with support from Karla Córdoba Brenes, Vice President of the Blockchain Association Costa Rica. Additionally, there were discussions on the MeCA proposed bill (Expediente 23415) aimed at regulating the use of crypto assets in the country, presentation made by José Miguel Zamora, Secretary of the Member of the Board of the Association.
The event attracted international companies with Costa Rican collaborators, who shared innovative payment solutions for businesses (Nimiq) and communication platforms (Push Protocol) designed specifically for blockchain applications. Notably, well-known brands like Decentraland have already implemented these solutions. Eduardo Kopper from Data Center CR inspired attendees with his insights, encouraging them to find solutions using blockchain technology and other innovative tools, in order to tackle the technological development challenges presented by the country. Throughout the event, participants enjoyed pizza during breaks, made new connections, and explored the experiences of the global party in different metaverses. The success of the #GlobalPizzaParty 2023 was made possible thanks to Pizza DAO, sponsors, and the enthusiastic individuals who attended the event.
